Through art, books, and multimedia, we will examine beauty trends across time and cultures. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of everyday and costume techniques. This class is intended to be a fun, hands-on learning experience with a positive message for girls AND boys: beauty trends and standards are constantly changing across time and space, so celebrate your unique look while learning a marketable skill!

Our Book Clubs will have guiding texts and a skeleton outline, but will also be driven by developing student interests.  Each month we will explore a different topic through some amazing literature: animal life, art & architecture, STEAM explorations, multicultural studies, nature studies, music & movement, political allegories, biographies & memoirs, tales of triumph, World War II and the American Civil Rights Movement. We will focus on reading comprehension, introduction to great books, and how to use literature for self-exploration.

Writer's Block

In this writers' group, we will learn how become creative producers of text rather than simply consumers:

Why do we enjoy reading our favorite authors? Where do writers get their inspiration?

What is the writing process?

How can we share our writing with the world? How can I use my writing to change the world?

If you are looking to share ideas with like-minded parents and would like to learn about literacy from an expert, this is the group for you!  Join to learn about literacy teaching & learning methods, including Wilson Language, Lindamood-Bell and Columbia University's Teachers College Reading & Writing Project.

The tools really do matter! I will lead kids in creating the kind of useful, personalized homeschool classroom supplies that are necessary for staying organized.  Our projects will include: clipboards, file crates, notebooks & journals, calendars, to-do lists and a fun twist on dry-erase markers!
